IN MY MIND THERE’S A CONTINUOUS REPETITION
MAQUINA. is a rock trio from Lisbon. They draw inspiration from repetition/minimalism-centered styles such as Krautrock and Industrial Techno, and quickly gained a reputation among audiences with their energetic performances that blend dance culture with heavy-hook songcraft.
TECHNIQUE
A mixture of live camera, video feedback, and highly processed footage of everyday life (trains, escalators, wet grass, … )
I also use pieces from the animated music video for “desterro” by Vasco Cavalheiro.
Setup consists of a Sony Handycam > Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle > Resolume.
Most of the mixing and effecting is done with an Arturia Minilab, which actually being a keyboard sometimes gets people curiously looking at it.
The visual aesthetic easily follows the sound, as it’s gritty, noisy, full of feedback, and BPM synced.
