Resident VJ at Musicbox Lisboa
Musicbox Lisboa is a club in Cais Sodré, and is one of the main spots of Lisbon’s nightlife.
I worked in Musicbox from 2016 to 2018, supporting various artists with live visuals and lights for their shows. These ranged from hardcore punk concerts to techno DJ sets. I had the opportunity to do it for artists such as The Alchemist, Daedalus, Tapes and Laid Back.
As a resident VJ, my main functions were:
Create original content for projection
Project live visuals during concerts and clubbing
Operate lighting console
Operate streaming rig
TECHNIQUE
During my time at the club, I experimented with different techniques and developed different languages that I could adapt to different music genres.
These were a mix of 2D and 3D animation coming from software like Toon Boom, After Effects and Cinema4d, use of camera, occasional mixing through an Edirol, and later on some coding with Processing. All of this going into Resolume for final mixing, effects and output.
The content itself was a mixture of characters, textures, abstract shapes and video samples.
